Listed as Marilyn Waltz, she was selected Playboy 's Playmate of the Month in three issues including the February 1954, April 1954 and April 1955 issues. Marilyn was the first of only two women to ever become a three-time Playmate. However for Marilyn's first of her Playboy appearances, Marilyn was erroneously billed as Margaret Scott. For many years thereafter, and even today many assumed that Marilyn and Margaret actually were two distinct people. It wasn't until finally in the mid 1990s that the two were revealed by Playboy to be the same person. While looking through photos as was preparation for the 1996's The Playmate Book, CEO and President Hugh Hefner noticed stark similarities between the two Centerfold models. Hefner speculated within the book about this: "I only noticed the resemblance as the photos were being assembled for the book [As with Marilyn Monroe, Hefner had purchased both images from Baumgarth calendar company] and that noticeably Margaret Scott's name doesn't appear in any lists of pinup models active in the period. Nor do any of the photographers that were spoken to recall a model with that name." So Marilyn co-held the three-time appearance record not on purpose but in secret for 42 years. Finally Marilyn herself notified Playboy that she in fact was Margaret Scott.

Although her pictures within the magzine had the typical 50's looks, she was later considered a generally more distinguished, cared for and good looking pristine woman of her era. This could be the main reason why Waltz received much more fan mail — ironically, for her Margaret Scott appearance — than all other Playmates in 1954, and therefore might be viewed as the first unofficial Playmate of the Year, though the title of Playmate of the Year was not officially created until around 1960. Even today Marilyn is still considered to be one of the most beautiful pinup models of the era of the 1950's and her February 1954 Margaret Scott centerfold photo appearance is often hailed as a classic as a classic.

On January 16, 1958, Marilyn married Breck Jordan and took his name. The couple had two children and three grandchildren. Marilyn Jordan also was a singer and commercial actress, and did numerous different layouts for other men's magazines before her Playboy work. After her modeling days, Marilyn owned and operated a successful real estate firm in Southern California. In 1993 Marilyn moved to Oregon and worked in another real estate firm in Medford until her retirement in 1996 and death in 2006.
